Cat Breeds

Exotic Shorthair Cat is not the most exotic cat you can find today. These cats are closely related to Persians and still today the kittens which have longer coat can be registered as Persian cats by many associations.

In early 1960s breeders of American Shorthair cats were out-crossing their breed to Persians to strengthen their own breed. Resulting cats did not resemble American Shorthairs, they looked more like Persians without all that fur.

Many cat lovers instantly loved the new look but obviously this was not what American Shorthair breeders had in mind. On the early litters some of the cats were registered as American Shorthairs but many went under the new exciting breed name The Exotic Shorthair. By the 1965 breeders of these “shorthaired Persians” mixed Persians also with other shorthaired breeds like Burmese and British Shorthairs.

1967 CFA formally accepted the Exotic Shorthair as a breed. Most famous early Exotic Shorthair catteries include New Dawn Cattery and Lion House Cattery. Until 1980 only Persian or American Shorthair cat coloring was acceptable but today even ACFA and CFA approve pointed colors in Exotic Shorthair cats. TICA also regognizes sepia and mink tones.

The Exotic Shorthairs are sweet and quite mild mannered cats like their Persian cousins. They are tad more active due to crossing to different active short haired breeds but still very easy cats to have as a house pet.

Like Persians these cats should be heavily boned and well balanced with that same sweet expression and large round eyes set wide apart.

Top of the list of medical concerns in the Exotic Shorthair cat is asymmetrical jaw. This can affect the bite and lead to eating difficulties and dental problems. They also have some sinus problems, tear duct problems and several eye problems. Most of these problems will surface by careless inbreeding or overbreeding for the extreme look.

Prices for show quality Exotic Shorthair kittens can be anywhere from $800 up to $3500 or more for the most famous bloodlines, if you can even find one to buy. Less valuable altered short haired kittens can cost anywhere from $350 up to $1000 in United States.

Half of the kittens born to the Exotic Shorthair mothers can still have long hair and look just like a Persian Cat. These kittens can be registered as Persians by many associations and will cost you as much as the Persians in your area, about $250 to $600.

The Exotic Shorthair does not need to be groomed as often as Persian cousin, but it does shed and should be groomed weekly. Be prepared to wipe your cats eyes twice a day with a soft tissue if they seem runny or have discharge, this is common problem with a breed.

To find a breeder in your area, take a look a the Absolutely Cats website, there is many links for the breeders both in United States and Internationally:

Dogs

There are five types of worm parasites which typically infect dogs. Because these infections can lead to a decline in health or even death, it is important that we know how dogs get worms. The best treatment is prevention and preventions starts by understanding where the worms come from. This article is a review of the common types of dog parasites and how dogs get worms.

Five Kinds of Worms

Heartworm - Heartworm is transmitted by mosquitoes carrying the parasite. Over a period of several months, the parasite grows and changes, eventually landing and living in the heart. Heartworm is easily prevented with medication, and can be deadly if not prevented or treated early. After the worms become adults, they reproduce and the young circulate in the blood. If an infected dog is bit by a mosquito, the mosquito will carry the infestation and might infect another dog. Heartworm infection is invisible until symptoms occur - which is why prevention is so important.

Hookworm - Hookworm come in several forms, three of which can affect dogs. They are not visible to the naked eye. Hookworms live in the digestive tract, attaching to the walls of the intestines and sucking blood from the host. As this parasite is one the most common worms in dogs and can also infect humans, it is vital to understand how dogs get these worms. An inventive parasite, the hookworm can be contracted through ingestion or by burrowing through the skin! Puppies can contract the worm in utero or through nursing from an infected mother. Hookworm eggs pass out of the gut in feces and hatch - where the larvae wait for contact. A dog or human can pick up these worms simply by contacting them or by swallowing them. When a dog licks its paw, it might ingest the larvae. They can also live in water, so a dog who drinks from a puddle could ingest the waiting larvae.

Roundworm - Round worm is the most common intestinal parasite in North American dogs. They are visible in feces or vomit. These worms are transmitted either in utero, when a dog eats contaminated food or soil, or when he eats and infected animal - a mouse, for instance. The adults lay eggs, which are passed out in feces and after being outside for a few days become 'activated.' If they are ingested after activation, the eggs will hatch and mature into adults - starting the cycle again. In puppies infected in utero, the worms infect the lungs, are coughed up and swallowed into the digestive system to complete their cycle. Wondering how dogs get worms? With so many methods of infection, it's better to wonder how some dogs don't get worms!

Tapeworm - Tapeworm occurs when an infected flea is swallowed. Segments of the tapeworm can break off and be seen moving near fresh feces or around the dog's anus. When dead and dry, they look like grains of rice and might be found on the dog's bedding. Preventing flea infections is key to avoiding tapeworm infection.

Whipworm - Whipworm is contracted when a dog ingests water of food contaminated with whipworm eggs. The eggs are not visible to the naked eye.

If you started reading this article because you wondered how dogs get worms, you probably can now see that the answer is usually by swallowing something. Regular veterinary care often involves prophylactic use of worm medicine which will eliminate all common intestinal parasites.

I was able to get a souvenir from the event. There is a faint hint of disaster in the air. Do you have any foresights on what might happen in the future? I can say for certain that asset management will make a huge difference for asset management. The short answer here is to use asset management to last longer than it currently does. I felt like I had been poisoned. This is just good common sense. I’m getting intense interest in asset management solution.

Another big problem is asset management. That’s the best way to go.

I have had to work my butt off and also believe me, I’ve been there. asset management has to adapt in order to thrive. I want to avoid loosing time. These are the pros and cons of asset management. I’m referring to your asset management. This is a recent scientific discovery. I’ll stop my story here. I had to do this on a shoestring budget. I wanted to get full service on this. Do you want to feel reborn? This is easy to read and follow. I think that gives me a lot of credibility. This is not so great until you reach that point. asset management is a pleasing way to remember asset management. Maybe it’s time to realign your goals. These are some foolproof methods.

Sleep Clinics

“Just count to ten, and when you wake up, you won't remember a thing.”

Most of us are familiar with similar words spoken by our anesthesiologist just before a surgical procedure. According to the Associated Press, what the patients of a New York City anesthesiologist didn't remember was perhaps contracting Hepatitis C from the speaker of those reassuring words. Although authorities will not reveal his or her name, insisting that the anesthesiologist has done no wrong, AP reports that the health officials did contact 4,500 people who had been treated by the doctor in clinics all over the city. At least three of these patients who had been given anesthesia by the doctor were infected with the Hepatitis C virus.

Hepatitis C is a treatable blood-borne virus which can severely damage the liver. The virus is rarely transferred during medical procedures, but the health department is investigating, and the doctor has voluntarily stopped practice until the results are in. People who have contracted Hepatitis C may have no symptoms, but they may also experience yellow eyes and skin, body aches, lack of energy, and dark urine.

The doctor has had a medical license since 1977 and has worked in ten different clinics in New York. Health authorities say they want to be cautious, and therefore, will try to contact all of the doctor's patients by letter so that they can be tested. This scare comes on the hills of another hepatitis transmission in a dental procedure back in May. At that time, Reuters Health reported that Hepatitis B was transmitted from one patient to another through oral surgery procedures. Infection control procedures were followed in this case also, but somehow the Hepatitis virus was transferred. Some in the medical community find these cases troubling because they indicate that there may be aspects of the transmission of blood-borne diseases that are still not understood.

Luxury Car Reviews

When I decided to replace my Saturn with a small SUV recently, I was determined not to walk away from the dealer feeling like I had just been taken to the cleaners. Every car deal I have ever made has left me feeling like I somehow paid too much. In fact, the experiences have been so bad, and I have felt so pressured, that I have avoided even looking at cars, all the while knowing that my little Saturn sedan was on its last legs.

So, when I finally faced reality and accepted the inevitability of having to find a replacement vehicle, I made a commitment to myself to become as educated as possible so that I could walk away from a dealer with my new car feeling good about myself and the transaction I had just completed.

After searching the internet for hours in search of the ultimate car buying guide, I came across Edmunds.com. Edmunds provided me with a one-stop site for all my car shopping needs. The site was easy to navigate and I quickly found myself immersed in a multitude of facts and reviews that helped me to quickly narrow my search and focus on the SUV that would best suit my needs.

I began with a generic search that allowed me to look at SUVs from a variety of angles. I could choose to narrow my search by size (compact, midsize, or large), price (7 different price ranges), or special category (diesel, hybrid, luxury, etc.). I was then able to select a few models for comparison, and following the Car Reviews link, examine buying guides, road tests, consumer ratings, and photos for the cars I was interested in.

The Tips and Advice link then directed me to safety information, special buying tips, guidelines for financing and insurance coverage, and buying experiences from other consumers.

Once I had decided on the SUV I wanted, I found what is perhaps the most valuable tool on the Edmunds.com site: the True Market Value, or TMV. The Edmunds trademark TMV is an exclusive system that gives the consumer information about what others are paying for a particular vehicle in their geographic area.

By examining real sales data, the vehicle's invoice price, the MSRP, current supply and demand, and brand strength, Edmunds gives you a customized price estimate based on the car you selected, with the exact options you selected, and for your particular zip code.

In addition to the price estimate, the TMV from Edmunds provides you with information on any available rebates and incentives for the purchase of the car you are interested in.

Without a doubt, this car purchase was the most satisfying I have ever experienced. Thanks to Edmunds.com I felt knowledgeable about the car I was interested in and I had research reports and pricing data printed out to back me up during negotiations with the dealer. For the first time, I felt comfortable leaving the dealership. For anyone interested in buying a car, the Edmunds.com website is an invaluable, and highly recommended tool.

Victorian Costumes

Halloween's coming, my favorite time of year, and as always, I'm thinking about the historical costumes I want to wear this time. Realistic historical costumes are fun to make and party hit! Not that it's much of a contest. My Halloween costume will be historical, like every costume I've ever made.

I admit it: I'm addicted to historical costumes, the more accurate the better. I swoon over period-perfect undergarments, and love learning how bum rolls worked, why formal Navy niform pants lace up the back, and how corsets gave way to bras over time.

I also like to dress in period-accurate clothing: Victorian, Elizabethan, medieval, Roman. I'm dying to create ancient Egyptian beadwork, and I can talk about pre-20th-century footwear for hours.

The real problem comes not with choosing costumes, but with deciding how accurate I want to be. Between corsets and high heels and pins, it's hard to decide where accuracy must end and pain prevention should begin.

Fasteners: Buttons, Zippers, and Pins

Zippers weren't invented until the late 1800s, and it took another fifty years for them to catch on. Buttons, on the other hand, were invented during the 1500s, but were denounced by Protestants as hooks the Devil could hang onto.

For this reason, most clothing made prior to the mid-1700s used only three types of fasteners: lacing, hook/eye fasteners, and pins. For a very few items (like bonnets) a simple string was used.

Laces aren't too bad as fasteners go, provided you don't pull them too tight, and they have the added advantage of being very adjustable. Below-the-arm laced bodices, for instance, are very forgiving of weight loss and gain. Hook/eye fasteners are more tedious to install, but at least they aren't typically painful.

The most common fastener used in early historical periods, alas, was the most potentially painful one. Pins –not safety pins, but straight pins, like those used by dressmakers — were how you buttoned your shirt, fastened your skirt together, and even held your stockings to your garters. On the bright side, the extensive use of pins could provide a quick method of self-defense.

Period Undergarments

One of my favorite books covers Western underwear from Roman times (little or nothing worn) to Victorian times (everything imaginable worn).

* Primary undergarments for both men and women throughout Medieval and Renaissance history were long-sleeved, knee-length nightgowns called either shifts (women) or shirts (men). This undergarment showed through other clothing, such as bodices, vests, slashed jackets, etc.

* Women didn't wear anything like panties or bloomers until sometime in the 1800s. It was probably a little drafty.

* Men's undergarments were almost always simple. Women's undergarments, on the other hand, was increasingly complicated: shift, corset, stockings, pantalets, and sometimes an additional overshirt.

For most period costuming, undergarments don't matter a lot until you get to the massive structural underpinning of corsets and similar items for women. Shifts and shirts are necessary, but all the other stuff is pretty optional except for shaping underwear.

Unless you're an addict like me, most other undergarments can be modern. No one's going to see them.

Best Bets for Period Costuming

Everyone has a favorite historical period, and that should guide your choice. But some periods are much easier than others for costuming.

*15th century women's clothing was primarily a dress and fitted bodice. After this came the Tudor period, which became very complex indeed.

* Anything requiring fitted bodices can be made exceptionally sexy, even for women of relative flat chests. Custom corsets are your most important clothing item. You can find corset makers online, or even in your own area if you look up your regional Society for Creative Anachronism.

* Anything with a sword is likely to be sexy for a man. There's just something about cold steel.

* Hair is a woman's crowning glory. Keep it simple, but get it right. A proper hairstyle can make or break your costume. If you don't know what else to do, wear it straight and long, and put a wreath on your head.

Period Costume Shoes The Hardest Part to Get Right

The absolute hardest part of any period costume is the shoe. You can't find them, and most costume kits don't include instructions on making them. Well, fortunately throughout medieval history most people used basically the same shoe pattern (Greeks, Romans, Egyptians and others from ancient history used mostly forms of the sandal, which was quite different but easier to find).

Start with a piece of leather or other tough material you will be able to walk in easily. Cut a shape in it that looks like a fat T with rounded ends; the stem of the T should be two to four inches wider than the sole of your foot, depending on the size of your arch. The stem should be a little more than twice the length of your foot, and the cross should be long enough to fit around your ankle. The cross should have holes pierced in both ends of the arm so you can thread a cord through it.

To put the shoe on, place your foot on the T with your heel just below the cross. Fold the stem of the T up over your foot, and fold the two sides of the cross around your ankle.

Thread your leather cord through the two holes, and tie it off. Now wrap the cord round your ankle (crossing it like lacing), and then down around the rest of the shoe to bind the sides to your feet; bring it back up to the ankle, and tie it off. You'll wind up with a respectable peasant-style shoe that will last you at least through the night.

Look cold? That's why medieval people wore stockings everywhere. If waterproofing was required, many medieval peasants kept cleaned-out large intestines tied off at one end that they could slide over the foot and leg between the stocking and shoe.

You can make boots in a similar fashion, just using a really fat T bar and wrapping the cord all the way up your legs. Furry materials add warmth when you do this, and also look nicely barbaric for the perfect finishing touch on your Viking costumes.

Car Insurance Rates

If you are looking for car insurance, you may be wondering where to look. With so many different insurance companies available to choose from, just how do you know which one to choose and which one would be right for you? Well, the only real way that you can tell that you are getting the right insurance for you, is by comparing the different plans offered by different companies.

Why Compare Car Insurance?

Depending entirely upon your circumstances, car insurance can be extremely expensive. So by looking around at the different companies, you get a chance to see what the average price of insurance is for your car and what the cheapest option for you would be. You need to take into account several factors when looking at car insurance and they include:

What the plan covers
The price
The location

When you compare insurance quotes, you are mainly looking for the cheapest option for you. However, sometimes the cheapest option does not always cover what you need. While one plan may cover everything that you need, another cheaper option may not. So before you agree to anything, you will need to check out the different plans that you are shown before you can make an informed decision.

The location of the quote should also be taken into account. If you use a comparison website to find the best quote for you, you should be presented with a form to fill in your personal details. There you will specify which state you are from and that will help the site to give you back relevant results. Sometimes you can look at quotes which are not tailored for your location and so it is always better to double check before wasting your time getting a quote.

The location will also affect the price that you are offered for your insurance. For example, if you live in California, the average price of insurance is $950. If you live in Florida then the average price of insurance is $1,104. Finally, in Oklahoma the average price of insurance is $862. So that gives you a rough idea of how the insurance rates differ in different states.

Comparing car insurance quotes is definitely worthwhile, as with the comparison websites that are available it makes it so much easier and much more convenient to apply. It could save you a lot of money and that is the best advantage as car insurance can be expensive - especially if you have a classic or rare type of car!

Comparing car insurance quotes is essential if you want to get the best deal possible. You really do need to look around and take the time to find the best offers if you do want to get the most affordable insurance for you.

Aromatherapy For Stress Reduction

With hundreds, if not thousands, of direct sales companies out there for you to choose from, it can be overwhelming when you’re first starting out. There are a lot of questions you should ask before investing either your time or money with any company.

How to Get Started

Choose only the companies and/or products that really catch your eye. This is going to be your career, or at the very least a hopefully lucrative side-line for you, for a long time. Pick something that you are passionate about. Ask yourself if you’d buy the products if you weren’t selling them. If the answer is no, don’t do it!

If at all possible, try out the products as a customer first before signing any consultant agreements.

Take your time deciding. Think long-term. This is going to be your business that you’re building. If it’s a legitimate opportunity, it will not disappear overnight. If your “sponsor” or “up-line” is very high pressure and wants you to sign right away, think twice about it. Some people just have that personality because they’re so excited about what they’re doing, don’t dismiss them just because of that. Just let it raise a “red-flag” about the opportunity, or at the very least, that representative.

Ask questions. Make sure they all get answered completely and to your satisfaction! Ask about the company, its leadership, the products or services, start-up fees, realistic costs of doing business (are there any hidden fees?), average earnings of distributors or representatives, return policies, any “objectionable” products it might sell other than the ones that attracted you to it in the first place, and anything else you can think of or are concerned about. If the person trying to recruit you doesn’t directly answer these questions to your satisfaction, a red flag should go up.

Get copies of any and all company literature used for recruiting and to pass out to customers. Read all of it! Take notes. Ask questions.

Talk to others about the company and its products. Find out from others what general feedback is about the company. Red Flag: Make sure that there are actual goods being sold to customers! If you can’t “track down” the actual goods that are supposed to be changing hands, it is most likely a pyramid scheme.

Investigate and verify all information you come across about the company. Don’t assume that because a company has a “glossy” brochure or catalog that they’re legitimate.

If you need help evaluating a company, you can check with the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov), the Direct Selling Association (www.dsa.org), the Better Business Bureau, state attorney general, or your local consumer protection office.

Once You’ve Decided on a Company, Make Sure You…

• Know all of the guidelines of the companies you’re interested in (where you can advertise, who and how you can recruit, the commission percentages, etc.)

• Have the time needed to “work” the business.

• Have the money/bartering tools needed to advertise your business and to purchase products/supplies.

• Are comfortable with both the commission structure and the payment schedule.

• Can stand behind the company’s policies, procedures, regulations and philosophy.

• Understand what is expected of you as a company representative (behaviors, wardrobe, quotas, etc.).

• Use the products/services for everyone to see. You are your own best advertisement.

• Don’t mind talking to strangers, in passing, with the intent of handing out your business card.

• Enjoy hosting or demonstrating at parties for your products, if this is required by the company.

• Feel comfortable and are knowledgeable discussing the products/services with customers and potential recruits.

• “Click” with your up-line and they’re available to answer any questions and guide your success.

When first starting out in direct sales, you may have to “try on” a few different companies to find the one that’s your “perfect match.”   Make sure you’re comfortable with every aspect of how the company is run, how the other reps interact, how customers are treated, and the integrity of the product or service you’ll be selling.

Once you’ve found your perfect company, promote it whole-heartedly. Let everyone in your family know that you’re in this new company and where they can purchase the products that they’re sampling/smelling/seeing all the time at your house! Have fun with your new endeavor!
